As you are probably aware, a healthcare bill in Congress is still a major issue. It's passage is being pushed agressively by the White House. The Obama administration has said that they would like to see passage of the bill before Congress takes its break starting March 18, 2010. There is much talk about them using a procedure known as "reconciliation" in order to get the bill passed. Here are a few reminders of what current "reform" measures would entail:
This healthcare "reform" is estimated to cost us over $1 Trillion over the next 10 years. Some esimates are closer to $2 Trillion.
We can still fight this! Below are some ways that you can be involved in trying to stop nationalized healthcare.
The first thing we can do is to contact three members of the House of Representatives from right here in Michigan that are considered to be vulnerable. You do not have to live in their district to contact them and let them know how you feel. Representatve Bart Stupak has been particularily outspoken about the current legislation covering abortion. Encourage him to stick to his position that the American people do not want their tax dollars paying for abortion!

The second thing you can do is to call Senators Levin and Stabenow and tell them you DO NOT want them to use reconciliation to pass this legislation! A new strategy is in place. If they do not answer their phones or their FAX is shut off, then contact one of the major media outlets and let them know about it. Maybe the senators won't respond, but the media might if they hear from enough people. Some negative press is still a good outcome.

The last thing you can do is come to a rally! On Thursday, March 11th at noon there will be a rally in front of Representative Dale Kildee's office. Even if he is not our representative, we can join with the Genesee County TEA Party, the Genesee County GOP, the 5th District GOP, other Tea Parties and As A Mom organizations to let Mr. Kildee know we want him to vote NO on healthcare.
This event will be held at Rep. Kildee's office at 432 North Saginaw Street, Suite 410, Flint, MI. This is just past where Saginaw crosses the Flint River and after the split off of MLK Street. The rally will be at a park in front of Kildee's office.
